Department of Basic Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the branch of medicine concerned with the uses, effects, and modes of action of drugs. The Department of Basic Pharmacology at EGSP NYMC provides students with essential knowledge about pharmaceutical drugs, their interactions, and their impact on human physiology.

For a Naturopathy practitioner, understanding pharmacology is crucial for managing patients who are already on conventional medication and for understanding the biochemical interactions between natural supplements and pharmaceutical drugs. Our curriculum focuses on pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and clinical toxicology.

Course Objectives

  • To provide a solid foundation in the principles of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences.
  • To understand drug-drug and drug-herb interactions for safe patient management.
  • To study the adverse effects and toxicology of common pharmaceutical drugs.
  • To equip students with the knowledge required to handle medical emergencies and pharmacological interventions when necessary.
